Optimization matrix
Products and product-site records used in your manufacturing processes are classified using a list of common identifiable characteristics defined as attributes. When a product being used in your manufacturing process is changed for a different product a time factor can be involved in setting up a work center for the new product. Whilst you can define setup time for a work order operation, if a single work center is used for different products with matching attributes you can use a setup time matrix to define setup time between individual characteristics, or attribute values in the assigned attribute classifications. For example, you want to define the time it takes to set up a work center to spray paint white colored products after cleaning the spray system which had been used to paint blue colored products. You use this function to create an optimization matrix of related setup time matrices that can be used by your web scheduling solution when associated with a work center. This optimization matrix is fed into your web scheduling solution to optimize setup time between operations by organizing the sequence of production to minimize the setup time between products and operations. For the previous example, your web scheduling solution can use a setup time matrix to organize the sequence of operations carried out in your paint booth to minimize the setup time between switching from one paint color, and cleaning the work center to set it up for a different paint color.
Attributes, and the setup time matrix are only used with your web scheduling solution. They are not used with work orders or Production Scheduler

The Optimization matrix function contains a home section in which you define an optimization matrix code, and a table in which you define related setup time matrices that link products and attributes, and which define a reduced setup time for products with like products to optimize production.
Header
You use this section to create an optimization matrix that can be associated with a work center. The optimization matrix links related attribute classifications defined in setup time matrices.
For example, your company manufactures bicycles. A common attribute is color. You can define an optimization matrix that links all setup time matrices related to color processes in the manufacture of bicycles such as a matrix of setup times for the change of paint color, plus a matrix of setup times for different varnishes.
Optimization code (field OPTCOD) |
Use this field to identify this optimization setup time matrix. |
Description (field OPTDESAXX) |
This field identifies this optimization matrix. |
Setup time type (field SETTIMTYP) |
Leave as Cumulative to add the total setup times for each matrix in the list of related setup time matrices defined for this optimization matrix code. Set to Maximum to only use the matrix with the longest setup time from the list of related setup time matrices defined for this optimization matrix code. |
Tab Setup time matrices
Use this section to list all related setup time matrices that can be used by your web scheduling solution when associated with a single work center.

Matrix code (field MATCOD) |
Use this field to identify an attribute classification setup time matrix. |
Matrix description (field MATDESAXX) |
This field identifies this setup time matrix. |
Attribute (field ATTCOD) |
This field displays the classification, or characteristic defined for this setup time matrix that is common to multiple products and components used in your manufacturing process. For example, if your company manufactures bicycles, an attribute of the bicycle frame is the frame color. The common attribute classification might be "PAINT COLOR", or just "COLOR". |
Attribute description (field ATTDESAXX) |
This field identifies the standard characteristic that you have classified as an attribute for this setup time matrix. |
