BOM codes

Use this function to define multiple bills of material (BOMs) for a product. The product reference and the BOM code provide the BOM reference.

You can define codes for sales BOMs, production BOMs, and for subcontracted BOMs. You can use the same code for different BOM types. You can further filter production and subcontract BOM codes by assigning the code to a specific site and a specific area of functionality:

  • For manufacturing (production BOMs only)
  • In cost calculations
  • In Material Requirements Planning (MRP) calculations
  • In the Master Production Schedule (MPS) calculations

Screen management

The BOM code function contains a single entry screen.

Block number 1

BOM type (BOMALTTYP)

The context in which a BOM code is used.

  • Sales (Kit) BOMs are the commercial BOMs used on sales orders.
  • Manufacturing BOMs are the production BOMs used in cost calculations, work order management, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and the Master Production Schedule (MPS).
  • Subcontracting BOMs are those used on subcontract orders, in cost calculations, MRP, and the MPS.
BOM code (BOMALT)

The numeric code associated with the BOM type.

Multiple bills of material can be defined for a single product. Each BOM code can be assigned specific management features. For manufactured or subcontracted products, this includes restriction of the BOM to a specific site and to specific areas of functionality such as for costing or for capacity planning.

The short description of the code associated with the BOM type.

Block number 2

Access Code (ACSCOD)

The code that restricts user access to the function.

When populated, the access code needs to be defined on each users function profile to access the function.
Site (FCY)

The production site.

You can only assign a production site to manufacturing and subcontracting BOM types. Leave blank if the BOM code can be used at all production sites.

Use

You can only assign a specific area of functionality to production and subcontract BOM types.
Manufacturing (MFGUSE)
Indicates that the BOMs associated with the BOM code are production BOMs that can be added to work orders.
Cost calculation (CSTUSE)
Indicates that the BOMs associated with the BOM code are production or subcontract BOMs that can be included when calculating the standard cost of a product.
MRP processing (MRPUSE)
Indicates that the BOMs associated with the BOM code are production or subcontract BOMs that can be included in Material Requirements Planning (MRP) calculations.
MPS processing (MPSUSE)
Indicates that the BOMs associated with the BOM code are production or subcontract BOMs that can be included in Master Production Schedule (MPS) calculations.

Error messages

In addition to the generic error messages, the following messages can appear during the entry:

Code already exists on line N.

The selected BOM type plus BOM code combination already exists. You need to change the BOM code.

File: Key deletion impossible

The BOM code has been assigned to a bill of material. You cannot delete the BOM code.

Modification impossible

You cannot change the BOM type.
