Sage X3 prerequisites

For information on how to set up and check the server environment for the Mobile Automation web service, refer to the Sage X3 Services installation documentation.

Functional prerequisites

The Mobile Automation navigation panel only displays transactions an operator has permission to use.

Functional authorization

Open: Setup > Users > Functional authorization

Use the Functional authorization function (GESAFP) to define access controls to the Sage X3 Mobile Automation for Manufacturing transactions for each functional profile code.

To give an operator permission to use a transaction, you need to add the Sage X3 function code to their functional profile authorization and set the Access field to Yes.

Function code Function name Mobile Automation Transaction name Access
CWSAMT ADC Material consumption Material consumption Yes
CWSAOT ADC Time tracking Time tracking Yes
CWSAPT ADC Production reporting Work order production reporting Yes

You should also check the operators functional profile authorization gives access to functions that they use with the Manufacturing transactions, such as the Work orders (GESMFG) and Product (GESITM) functions.

Users

Open: Setup > Users > Users

Open: Setup > Users > Function profile

All users need to have an active user record defined in the Users function (GESAUS) that's set to use web services.

  • In the General section, select the Web services connection checkbox. This checkbox sets the user record to use the web services.

All users need to have a Site defined for their Mobile Automation user.

BOMs

Open: Common data > Products > Production BOMs

You use the Production BOMs function (GESBODP) to set up a bill of material (BOM) which contains the structure for making a product. It defines the components, subassemblies, and raw materials that make up a finished product.

Products

Open: Common data > BOMs > Products

Open: Common data > Products > Product categories

Open: Common data > Products > Products-sites

You use the Products function (GESITM) to set up and maintain product codes.

  • The Lot field only displays in the Work order production tracking and Material consumption transactions if the product is managed by Optional lot or Mandatory lot.
  • The Sublot field only displays in the Work order production tracking and Material consumption transactions if the product is managed by Lot and sublot.
  • The Serial number field only displays in the Work order production tracking and Material consumption transactions if the serial number management mode of the product is Received/issued or Global received/issued.

You use the Product categories function (GESITG) to assign a product code to a specific category of product. The product category defines whether the products are managed or non-managed, that is whether they are inventory or services, what unit of measure (such as liter, hour, each) is applicable to the category, the accounting code (and therefore the general ledger postings) (Setup > Financials > Accounting interface > Accounting codes (GESCAC)), management and analysis information. The product category also defines the costing and valuation methods.

You use the Products-sites function (GESITF) to set up and maintain data associated with a specific product at a specific site.

  • The Location field only displays in the Work order production tracking and Material consumption transactions if Location management is active.
  • The Container only displays in the Work order production tracking transaction if Container management is active.
  • The License plate number field only displays in the Work order production tracking and Material consumption transactions if Container management is active.

Routing

Open: Manufacturing > Routings > Routing management

You use the Routing management function (GESROU) to define the sequence of shop floor processes needed to build or maintain the bill of material or finished product.

Units

Open: Common data > Common tables > Units of measure

Open: Common data > Common tables > UOM conversion

You use the Units of measure function (GESTUN) to set up and maintain units of measure.

Unit of measure conversion values ensure the quantities for a work order can be tracked using different units and converted.

Print prerequisites

Open: Setup > Stock > Mobile Automation setup

Open: Setup > Manufacturing > Entry transactions > Work orders

You use the Mobile Automation setup function (FUNADCSEARCH) to define which Sage X3 report design will be used for your production labels.

  1. To automatically print production labels at all your production sites, select the All sites checkbox.

To only print production labels at a specific production site, select the Storage site.

  2. Check the Stock search block has a Flow type and filters set for either all sites or your selected production site.
  3. The ETIQONFLYPROD—Prod. labels on demand report code defines the Manufacturing labels format.
  4. If the Mobile Automation user will always use the Label destination they define for their Mobile Automation session, select the Always label destination checkbox.

If they need to be able to change their label destination printer, leave the Always label destination checkbox clear.

When you receive finished products from production for a work order using the Work order production tracking transaction, production labels are printed for the received products automatically if the following are set:

  1. The Print documents field (MODDOS) in the Work orders entry transaction (GESMFL) is set to Automatic.
  2. The Mobile Automation user has defined a Label destination printer in their handheld device settings.

Web services prerequisites

Before using the Mobile Automation transactions, you need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Open: Administration > Web services > Classic SOAP pools configuration

    Stop the web service pool.

  2. For transactions using import templates:

    Open: Setup > Usage > Imports / exports > Import/export templates

Set up then validate the import template.

  3. For transactions using entry transactions:

Set up then validate the entry transactions.

  4. Open: Development > Script dictionary > Scripts > Web services

    Publish the web services.

  5. Open: Administration > Web services > Classic SOAP pools configuration

    Start the web service pool.

  • The individual Mobile Automation transaction help pages include a Web service prerequisites section. This section details the steps to perform to use the transaction, the name of the web service to publish, and when used, the name of the import template and entry transaction to set up and validate.
  • A summary of the web services and import templates is available in the Mobile Automation web services section.
