A work center is a production resource on which a elementary routing operation needs to be carried out, and for which the load can be planned and/or the production time, tracked.
The work center can be of machine, labor or sub-contracting type.
The work centers of "sub-contracting" type are used to manage the operations carried out externally by sub-contracting suppliers.
Essentially the work center definition contains information useful to production planning: capacity, efficiency and shrinkage percentage, alternative work centre in case of breakdown/bottleneck etc.
In addition the costing information relating to the work centers can be managed via the associated costing dimension.
Refer to documentation Implementation
The work center management function is comprised of two tabs that are used to create, view and update a work center.

The work center is attached to a work center group. It corresponds to a production resource on which a routing operation is carried out. This is an entity for which it is requested to plan loads and track production times. Each work center is associated with an attachment site. |
|
The production site associated with the user is proposed by default. It can be modified by another site authorized for the operator, depending on its authorizations. |

This long description is used as a title in screens and reports. By default the short title, the long title or the column header of a data are recorded (on creation/update) in the connection language of the user.
A user who logs on with this language will view the short description, long description or column header in their connection language if a translation exists. Otherwise, these descriptions will be available in the folder language.

A weekly structure is a set of 7 values, each specifying the hourly capacity of a day in the week.
Calendars are used for calculating the capacity of a work center. |
|
The costing dimension is used to link the work centers to the accounting: it contains information on hourly rates that are necessary for the cost calculations, and also the an
alytical dimensions. |
|
The number of work centers makes it possible to manage the number of resources for identical resources in order to carry out an operation. For instance, a labor work center may comprise 3 people. This is indicated by entering 3 in the number of resources. |
|

This percentage defines the threshold being applied to automatically close the materials during production tracking. For instance, if the value is 95% and the material requirement is 200 UN, the system will suggest to close the material if the consumed quantity is greater than or equal to 190 UN. |
|
This field specifies the default location in the entry of stock movements: receipts, issues, location changes etc., based on the setup of these transactions. The location is linked to the work center. This work center is used when a material is attached to an operation and its allocation rule filters on a local location.

The qualification level, entered on 10 alphanumeric characters, is given for information purposes. It is not managed in the use of the different functions. |

The display level (defined by default on the work center) is used to filter the initial Gantt display. Within the scheduling function, it is possible to filter the work centers to be displayed as a function of this level. |

If the grouping flag has the value "yes", it indicates that the work center is concerned by the grouping procedure of the X3 optimization. The purpose here is to specify whether the work center can be subject to an operation grouping in the Optimization/Scheduling function, and if it is Yes on what horizon (horizon starting on the start date specified on launching the scheduling function). A work center subject to a grouping cannot be managed as a multiple resource work center. A routing operation using such a work center should specify which criterion leads to the grouping of the operations concerned. |

Horizon on which the grouping constraint will be taken into account by the scheduling. |

When you select this check box, the machine work center remains running while an employee is on a break or an exclusive indirect task. This field is only available for a Machine work center type. |
|
A constraint work center is considered by the optimization function as a work center with finite capacity whilst a non constraint work center has infinite capacity. The box set to "yes" indicates that the work center is associated with constraints in terms of finite capacity (machine or labor). |
|
Rough Cut Capacity Planning in the translation of the French abbreviation "PGC" (for "Planification Globale des Capacités"). This flag characterizes the work centers. If the RCCP flag for the work center is set to "YES", the operation is identified as being critical during production. This flagging is particularly significant when it comes to generating macro-routings. |
|
This field is used in the optimization function (scheduling with infinite capacity). It is used to choose whether the replacement work centers are used during the optimization step so as to level the load, and so to reduce the lateness on objective. |
|
This field is used in the scheduling function. If it is active, all work center resources are displayed in several lines depending on the distinction criteria that are present on the operations linked to this work center. The distinction criteria are loaded onto the operations from the routing operations (tab Operation Scheduling). |
Performances
|
The efficiency is a way to measure compliance to the preset standards. It can be calculated over a given period by work center: Standard hours calculated for a given production divided by the actual hours worked. Two efficiency rates are managed depending on:
If both coefficients are entered, they add up. The WSTEFFINH - Work center efficiency history general parameter (GPA chapter, MIS group) is used to specify whether the efficiency defined at work center level should be used on the routing operation.
|
|
This percentage is used to balance the quantities on the production operations based on the released quantity. It is possible to introduce a shrinkage percentage on the work center, which is used to weight the planned runtimes for an operation using this work center by a loss or gain on the quantity produced for the work center. |

Use this field to assign this work center to a specific cost type. Cost types are used by Project management. In a labor context, a cost type defines the types of labor resource that can affect a project such as operator costs. |

Work center capacity
Work center capacity comprises multiple elements:
You use this tab (Variation) to define exceptions to the availability (or capacity) of a work center. For example, to define a specific date a work center is not available because of maintenance. Alternatively a labor work center might have a variation because a mechanic is on leave, or only 2 workers are available instead of the normal 3.
You can attach a reason to a variation (the reasons are defined in miscellaneous table 801) and link a text description to each variation.

By default, the following reports are associated with this function :
WORKSTATIO : Work center listing
This can be changed using a different setup.
Click the Reschedule action to recalculate the workload for all work orders that use this work center. This will rebuild (resynchronize) the load buckets according to the period breakdown (days, weeks and months) defined in the scheduling parameters. All work orders with a start date later than today are processed, whatever their status (suggested, planned or firm). |
This menu is used to view the load details inquiry for the current work center.
This function is used, for a given selection of operations (OWx-type load) running on the work center being processed, to perform the mass modification of the number of work center resources required for these operations. The modified operations are then automatically checked.
The validation of the operations grid leads to an update of the checked operations and WO rescheduling for the operations concerned. It is also possible to check an operation without modifying it, simply to reschedule the WO in question.
This function can also be reached with a right click in the line, from the tab "Capacity Variation of the work center". In this case the system preloads the date filter with the period selected in the capacity variations.
This menu is used to start the load recalculation. It is recommended to run this process if a modification is carried out on the work center capacity (one-off capacity variation, weekly structure variation, modification to the number of work center resources).
