Use this parameter to define whether a work order must be single project only.

No (default) – Each product line on a work order can be assigned to a different project.

Yes – Product lines on a work order must be assigned to the same project as the first released product line on the work order, or blank (not assigned to a project).

Sage recommend this parameter is set to 'Yes'.

Sage recommend that a work order for a project should be single product only. That is, one work order for one product for one project. See the Comments section of this page for further information.

Comments

For Project management costs to be tracked in finance the project code assigned to a released product line determines the project analytical dimensions for that product line and the components in the bill of materials (BOM). The project code to which the first released product line on a work order is assigned not only determines the project analytical dimensions for that product line and the BOM components, but also the project analytical dimensions for the routing operations. For any subsequent product lines on a work order, project analytical dimensions for the components in the BOM are initialized for the project assigned to the first product line on the order; the project analytical dimensions for the routing operations remain initialized for the first released product line.

Sage recommend that work orders for a project are generated automatically from MRP suggestions. This minimizes the risk of inconsistencies as all product/project links are created automatically.

Sage recommend that a work order for a project should be single product only. That is, one work order for one product for one project.

  • If a work order is generated automatically from MRP suggestions this one work order/one product rule will apply. A single work order will cover demand for a single product and therefore a single project.
  • If a work order is raised manually it is possible to add multiple released products to the order. This is dependent upon the selected Entry transaction which can be set to restrict a work order to one released product line (Multiple products allowed check box). With multiple products on a single work order it can be difficult to trace inconsistencies in the postings if they occur. Therefore, if this parameter is set to 'Yes' and a work order has multiple released products, all product lines must be for the or blank (not assigned to a project). If this parameter is set to 'No' a warning will be displayed when a project code is entered that does not match the project code assigned to the first released product line but the addition of the product/project to the work order will not be prevented.
